The Current Livelihood of the Thai Resettlers in Quynh Nhai District, Son La Province

Abstract

By the analysis of change of five capital resources (natural, human, social, material and financial resources), the study shows that at present, the livelihood activities of the Thai resettlers have a lot of changes in both agriculture and traditional handicraft as well as the appearance of some new livelihood activities compared with those before their resettlement. In the first phase of resettlement, it can be negatived that because of the unadaptableness to new resident places, the life of the Thai resettlers was unstable and suffered a lot of difficulties. However, their current life is developing in a quite positive direction, increasing income and the fastly decreasing rate of poverty households.
