Study of Ethnic Cultural Identity in Relation with National Cultural Identity from Anthropological Approach

Abstract

The writing summarizes and analyzes the viewpoints and approaches of Vietnamese anthropologists in study of ethnic cultural identity and construction of national culture. In Vietnam, ethnic culture is expressed in three basic characteristics, namely language, culture and self-ethnic consciousness. Each ethnicity has its own distinctive cultural characteristics which can be fade, change in process of cultural contact and acculturation, especially in the background of revolution of information technology and globalization at present. For a multi-ethnic nation, its national culture has a close relation with political culture so as to create a consent of ethnicities and social groups. In the past time, the theory of construction of national culture has not yet perfected so that the ensuring unity from diversity of Vietnamese culture has not been paid full attention and has not been expressed clearly.
