The Lo Lo Ethnic Group in the Socio-economic Environment of Sino-Vietnamese Border Area
Abstract
This article analyses changes in the ethnic relationships of the Lo Lo in the context of the economic development in the Vietnam-China border area during the early 21st century. The market economy and globalization have strongly impacted the Lo Lo traditional economy and their relationships with other ethnic groups. The ability to supply and consume products, provide employment opportunities and generate income have strongly impacted the ethnic relationships of the Lo Lo with others. Creating a regional market is prerequisite to orienting and managing ethnic relations in general and the relations of the Lo Lo with other ethnic groups in particular in the modem context.
