Differences of Traditional Culture of the Tay and the Nung in Lang Son Province

Abstract

The Tay and the Nung ethnic groups who mainly reside in the Northeastern region of Vietnam, particularly in Lang Son province, have a very close historical and cultural relationship with each other. Therefore, in some studies the authors tend to add up the culture of such the two ethnic groups. However in reality the culture of the Tay are somewhat different from that of the Nung. The author attempts to affirm this statement by comparing data of eating and drinking, traditional clothing, house design, funeral ceremonies, and language of the Tay and the Nung ethnic groups. This study contributes to the cultural studies of the Tay and the Nung.
