Abstract

The author describes the “Chay lon” festival, a unique performance in Duyen Yet Village, Hong Thai Commune, Phu Xuyen District, Hanoi. The “Chay lon” festival is an important agriculture ritual that stresses the importance of animal husbandry. The festival highlights the importance of rural community agrarian interrelations necessary to the farmers in the Red River Delta. National heroes and compatriots are celebrated in the festival highlighting the close relationship between the peasants and the army.
