Roles of the Ethnic Cultures in the Socio-economic Development in the Northeast Vietnam

Abstract

This article emphasizes the important roles of the ethnic cultures in the Northeast Vietnam towards to increasing household income, community healthcare, and maintaining the community solidarity and public order. Many farmers in the researched communities have used their individual and community knowledge as well as different resources to support their livelihood, so that they are not completely depend on outside support. The farmers in this study are able to overcome the poverty not by any means and at any cost, but mainly through their cultural modalities appropriate to their community ethics, including their approach towards the crime in their society. Additionally, this study contributes to understanding the significance grass roots action in balancing between social development and the maintenance of different resources for the sustainable development of the community.
