This article introduces the benefits of traditional knowledge of the three Yao sub-ethnic groups (Red Yao, Yao Tien and Yao Thanh Y) in the four provinces namely Tuyen Quang, Bac Kan, Cao Bang and Quang Ninh for their development of houshold economy and poverty reduction as well as makes recommendations, solutions to usage of this traditional knowledge for socio-economic development of such the local Yao sub-ethnic people in particular and for that of the whole region in general. The article indicates clearly that in order to improve  household economy and ensure food security for households, the Yao people have applied their traditional knowledge and experiences into productive process such as raising income from agriculture to a main income of households and seek for supplemental income from collection and usage of natural products, especially forest timber and non-timber products. Yet, this application has caused some negative impacts on conservation of forest resources and household economy as well
