The Beliefs and Taboos in Pottery Production in Muong Chanh
Abstract
This article mainly provides ethnographical descriptions and explanation of the beliefs and taboos carrying deeply traditional cultural features of Muong Chanh potters. Although these beliefs and taboos are mainly related to the steps of putting earthen vessels into the kiln and baking, they reflect the custom and habits, beliefs and social life of the Black Thai people in the Northwestern region. The spiritual values hidden in the Muong Chanh pottery products are the long-standing traditional cultural values and reflect the everlasting belief in supernatural forces of Muong Chanh Black Thai people
