Some of the Folk Beliefs of the San Diu in Dong Hy District, Thai Nguyen Province
Abstract
Based on the dominantly wet rice cultivation-based economy combined with animal husbandry, with the family and village community as the social basis, the San Diu in Dong Hy district, Thai Nguyen province have different patterns of belief, including ancestor worship as the worship of spirits who protect family (goddess who give shape to and protect babies, the door spirit, the kitchen god...) and the village spirit, as well as rituals related to agriculture. These belief forms contain some elements of the exotic religions (Buddhism, Taoism). The religious activities today still play an important role in the life of the people, and they are seen as the spirit base, creating links between members of ethnic communities.
