The Involvement of the Husband in His Pregnant Wife’s Healthcare in the Hmong Community in Huoi Mot Commune, Song Ma District, Son La Province

Abstract

In the Hmong community in Huoi Mot commune, Song Ma district, Son La province, pregnancy and childbirth are natural stories. The husband - one of the two main subjects related to reproductive behavior is merely an outsider, almost not involved in healthcare activities for his pregnant wife. Personal factors such as age, education level or traditional customs influence the participation of the Hmong husband in his pregnant wife's healthcare. To involve the husband in his pregnant wife’s healthcare and improve the pregnant women’s health, the author suggests some recommendations as follows: developing the socio-economic situation and then improving the quality of the Hmong living standard; improving the local people’s educational level and awareness of gender equality; enhancing the effectiveness of information dissemination and communication.
