This article presents the funeral ceremonies of a Nung sub-group in Thai Nguyen province. It points out that the Nung Phan Slinh people in Ba Dinh Village maintain many traditional funeral practices. A common funeral has 25 rites, including 18 burial rites for the dead and 7 rituals after burying the dead. In case of holding burial rites for the dead magicians and for those who drop dead, besides the above-mentioned rites, there are some additional rituals for the dead. Every ritual has its own worship ceremonials in accordance with the Nung perceptions and customs. The funeral of the Nung ethnic group expresses the Nung historical and cultural characteristics as well as their community solidity and at the same time, it reminds the younger generations to be grateful to their ancestor and to keep the filial respect for their parents and the dead.
