Roles of the Viet in the Mountainous Areas
Abstract
This article learns about the roles of the Viet people in the socio-economic development in a mountainous commune of Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang province. In general, like in many other mountainous locations, the Viet in the research commune are not the demographic majority. However, as the majority ethnic group in Vietnam, the Viet people play a significant role in the development of all aspects of the society in every place that they reside with the ethnic minorities. The Viet people in Quy Son commune have made great contributions. The Kinh have helped promote and expand agriculture by enlarging the reclaimed land in the mountainous areas and then used much reclaimed land for the gardening and farmstead; actively irrigating the fields by mobilizing the ethnic minorities to dig water reservoirs and make many trenches for irrigation; applying advanced agricultural technology to the gardening and farmstead. Additionally, the Kinh contribute to the social and political development at the local level.
