The Kinh Adaptation to Agriculture in the Northeast Region
Abstract
Based on fieldwork, this article shows the adaptation of the Kinh (Viet) ethnic group to agriculture in northeastern provinces after the group migrated to this region from the rural lowlands. In terms of slash-and-burn agriculture, their adaptation represents the changes in the selection of cultivated land for sowing seeds, sowing techniques, importance of weeding, etc. In terms of wet-rice farming, the Kinh adaptation expresses on the one hand the application of means of production, sowing, planting and harvesting methods by the ethnic minority group. On the other hand, they apply the technical transformation from wet-rice agriculture in rural lowlands to wet-rice agriculture in highlands. This article also points out the vanguard role of the Kinh ethnic group in directing the agriculture of the Northeast region towards commodity production.
