Community-based land management of the Thai in the Northwest from 1993 until present

Abstract

From the implementation of the 1993 Land Law, until the present, the community-based management of land in the Northwest has seen many changes. In this article, the author examines issues related to the land which is managed and used by the local community; changes in the mechanisms and operation of land management; relationships among community members, through the benefits they derive and the responsibility they take for land that the community manages and uses. The article also considers the role of community-based land management in the context of the establishment and implementation of the Land Law in 1993, and the modified Land Law in 2003.
