Indigenous knowledge of Thai traditional medicine in the mountainous areas of Thanh Hoa province (A case study in Yen Khuong commune, Lang Chanh district)
Abstract
Indigenous knowledge of Thai traditional medicine in the mountainous areas of Thanh Hoa province is quite rich and diverse. Based on data that the author collected in Yen Khuong commune, Lang Chanh district, there are around 170 different kinds of medicine, including herbal medicines, medicines from animals, and numerous others. Studied factors are: use values of medicines, the effects of treatment; ways of collecting, processing and preserving medicines; remedies for common diseases; eating and drinking in terms of nutrition and disease treatment, etc. The author also claims that it is important to promote the study of herbal plants, as well as their preservation, in order to preserve important aspects of the national culture.
