The Marriage Customs of the White Hmong in Thuan Chau District, Son La Province

Abstract

This study examines the extent to which the Hmong in Nam Giat village still maintain their marriage customs: do not get married to a person who belongs to the same family lineage; maintain the custom of “catching the wife”; if related to the bridegroom, help the bridegroom out with the wedding-presents; if related to the bride, do not escort the bride to the bridegroom’s house.
