A Look at Social Capital and Social Network

Abstract

The author engages in discussion with Prof. Dr. Ngo Duc Thinh who wrote the article “Analyzing Social Networks and Social Capital in the Rural Areas of Vietnam for Development,” published in the Anthropology Review No. 4 (154) in 2008. The content of this discussion includes the concepts of social capital, whether these concepts were diminished during the agricultural co-operative period and how farmers and their housing fit into the social structure and  rural development of Vietnam in the future. This article proposes to clarify the role of social capital and social network in rural areas of Vietnam.
