The Relationship between the Khmu and the Thai in the Northwest Vietnam

Abstract

Thai and Khmu ethnic groups reside in the Northwest region of Vietnam. According to scholars, the Thai were rulers over the Khmu. Based on historical evidence, Hoang Luong argues that Thai patricians have maintained a tradition of spousal relationships with the Khmu, establishing a mixed ancestry between the two populations. Additionally, he argues that the Thai have maintained a history of deep respect for the Khmu population that is clearly present today.
