Bilingual Education in Vietnam: Strategies and Achievements
Abstract
This article mentions the bilingual education issue in the ethnic minority areas in Vietnam. According to the author, the Communist Party and the Vietnamese Government have adequate policies and useful strategies for bilingual education. The alphabet of ethnic minority language, instruction guides, school books, bilingual language documents, and the efforts of Ministry of Education and other state branches have created advantages for the development of bilingual resources in ethnic minority areas. Bilingual education, however, faces some obstacles such as young people’s ability to acquire language, teacher’s proficiency in ethnic minority languages, and differences of ethnic cultures.
