The cultural characteristics of San Diu people in Thai Nguyen province manifested by their eating and drinking customs

Abstract

By studying the eating and drinking customs (system of food source, types of food, the way of cooking, and the social behaviour in eating and drinking, etc), the author finds the specific characteristics of culture of San Diu people in Thai Nguyen province. The author also gives the conclusion: the characteristics of eating and drinking of ethnic people are the achievements of their communities that are established in their histories. The characteristics, however, are not immutable concepts. They are always moving on and opening. Therefore, in the integrative trend, each ethnic people should choose the progressive elements to enrich their culture, but at the same time, they should preserve and promote the good features in their traditional culture, that are the affirmation of cultural characteristics.
