Local knowledge of the cultivation of terraced fields of Hmong people in Sa Pa district, Lao Cai province- Farming calendar

Abstract

The farming calendar is part of the local knowledge and traditional culture of the Hmong people in Sa Pa district. The farming calendar of Hmong people is closely organized and associated with the growth of the rice plants and the seasons. Even though the farming calendar has become local knowledge and has existed for a long time, the knowledge about the seasons of agricultural production, and the cultivation of terraced fields of the Hmong people in Sa Pa is not applied. This causes negative effects. Therefore it is necessary to be aware of the benefits of local knowledge about the farming calendar and to find appropriate agriculture methods in order to improve the Hmong’ s living standards
