Customary marriage regulations of the Thai in Phu Yen district, Son La province

Abstract

To the Thai people, marriage is a very important event which marks a crucial stage in a person's life. The cultural characteristics of the Thai in Phu Yen district, in terms of marriage and family, are still maintained. Many rituals and regulations of their marriages have been preserved and observed in accordance with their customary laws. However, in the face of the current drastic changes in society, the customary marriage laws among the Thai community in Phu Yen district have changed significantly. Therefore, to implement current social management and to contribute to preserving and developing their traditional cultural characteristics, it is necessary to study and reinforce the relationship between their customary laws and the government’s laws
