Banana tree and reproductive belief in the subconscious of some Southeast Asian inhabitants
Abstract
Based on analyzing the phenomena and practice relating to banana trees in the life of some ethnic groups in Vietnam (Viet, Khmer, Bahnar and Jrai), in Cambodia (Khmer) and in Thailand (Thai), the author asserted that banana is not only a useful plant species, but in the far past, it was a sacred tree in the reproductive belief of the ancestors of some Southeast Asian people
