Traditional agricultural rituals of the Bahnar (through a survey in Kon Jodri Village in Dakrowa Commune, Kon Tum Provincial Town)
Abstract
The author describes eight rituals relating to the process of upland cultivation of the Bahnar in Kon Jodri Village, from repairing tools to start a new crop to harvesting and containing rice grains in storages (1. Ritual of repairing the blacksmith’s, 2. Ritual of selecting land for cultivation, 3. Ritual of land clearance, 4. Ritual of burning upland fields, 5. Ritual of sowing seeds, 6. Ritual of rice seeds, 7. Ritual of new rice, 8. Ritual of New Year). According to the author, these rituals show the behaviours of upland farmers in their relation with nature.
