Some Discussions on Protestantism of Native Ethnic Minorities in the Central Highland.

Abstract

Since 1986 up to present, Protestantism has developed rapidly among native ethnic minorities in the Central Highland. In 2005, out of 30,000 Protestant adherers, 90 percents of them are ethnic minority people. Not only does its number of believers grow, but its institutionalization and operation is alos reinforced. The article analyzes with the focus on De-ga Protestantism, and explains the cause of the development of Protestantism. The author argues that the people convert to Protestantism not only because of missionary work, being taken advantage or lack of knowledge (low education), but also their choice, historical circumstances, ethnic psychological characteristics, social stratification process and social contradictions, the impacts of local and central policies, and the relationship among local populations…
