A significant attention has long been accorded by anthropologists and sociologists to the analysis of polygyny which refers to “a marriage in which one man is simultaneously married to more than one wife”. This paper highlights that polygynous marriage was preferred among the traditional Logoli society. Nowadays, the incidence of polygyny is gradually dwindling, partially as a result of women’s higher levels of education and increasing economic independance. Higher education is particularly instrumental in opening a broader range of options for women and generally makes them more receptive to new ideas.
