Ta oi food

  • Trần Nguyễn Khánh Phong

Abstract

This article describes the eating habits of the Ta Oi people, who live mainly in Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue provinces. They cook “lam” rice and many different kinds of cakes from both sticky and ordinary rice.  Wild game was once an important food source for the Ta Oi people, but as it has become increasingly rare, they have had to substitute fish and domesticated animals.  The Ta Oi have many traditional dishes such as ‘a quat’, ‘dep peng’, ‘an chat’ (cakes), ‘kleng’ (meat from four-footed animals).
