Cross-border Ethnic Relations of Tay and Nung People in Bao Lam Commune, Cao Loc District, Lang Son Province Today
Abstract
Residing in the Vietnam-China border area for many generations, the Tay and Nung people of Bao Lam commune in Cao Loc district, Lang Son province, have cultivated enduring cross-border relationships. Since the re-opening of trade at the Vietnam-China border in 1991, the cross-border relations of the Tay and Nung communities have encountered increased opportunities for expansion and development. This article delves into the cross-border relationships of these two ethnic groups, focusing primarily on economic activities and marital relations. It also highlights several issues and presents recommendations aimed at stabilising the economic and social facets of life, while effectively managing the ethnic relations of the Tay and Nung people within the specified study site, as well as among the various ethnic groups residing in the Vietnam-China border area.
