Changes in the Nung’s marriage in the Vietnam - China border area (Case study in Cay Tac village, Lung Nam commune, Ha Quang district, Cao Bang province)

Abstract
Marriage is one of the elements that clearly show ethnic identity and occupy an important position in the Nung’s social life. In the current context of renovation, integration, and globalisation, Nung people’s marriage in the border area of Cao Bang province is undergoing profound changes. The article points out the Nung’s traditional marriage characteristics and analyses the current status of ethnic-mixed marriages and cross-border marriages. Thereby, it shows the factors that lead to changes in marriage, including choosing a life partner, the rights to marriage decision, the customs and ceremonies in the wedding, and residence after marriage.
