Prejudice about the disease: From history to the Covid-19 pandemic

Abstract

The article provides a historical perspective on a form of prejudice that is common not only in Vietnam but also in many countries around the world – the prejudice related to the disease. Based on doing literature reviewing, the analysis in the article has shown that prejudices related to diseases are socially constructed in specific social contexts due to false or incomplete perceptions of diseases. Prejudice manifests in many forms, which violence is the worst. Subjects affected by prejudice are not limited to social groups, but in many cases, prejudices are also at ethnic and racial levels, especially in the context of the current Covid-19 pandemic.
