Climate changes and the responses of Thai and Hmong people in Tan Lap commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province through some non-agriculture livelihood activities
Abstract
This article discusses the non-agriculture livelihood activities of Thai and Hmong people in Tan Lap commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province and their responses to the impact of climate change. Our research findings show that the climate in Tan Lap commune has changed very much during the last ten years with higher temperature in all seasons of the year and unpredictable hail and floods. These changes have impacted the livelihoods of these two ethnic groups at different levels, including non-agriculture activities such as hired labor and agriculturals service activities. Thai and Hmong people have different coping methods and changes in their livelihood activities are shaped by their ethnic cultures.
