Inbreeding Marriage of the Ba-na and Gia-rai in Gia Lai Pronvince.

Abstract

Ba-na and Gia-rai are two local ethnic groups in Gia Lai province. Early marriage and inbreeding marriage are popular within those groups. Inbreeding marriage has led to serious negative consequences for these ethnic communities, the families within them and for the society’s development as a whole. Based on fieldwork research, this study found that inbreeding marriage is practiced the most in Gia-rai Chor and Gia-rai Mthur sub-groups of Gia-rai ethnic (in Cheo Reo area). This study elaborates the causes of this problem and recommends some solutions to minimize its practices
