Abstract
Defensive villages and fortress houses are one of distinguished cultural features of Tay and Nung people in Cao Loc district, Lang Son province. This topic has been researched by many scholars. However, in general, it has just been partially examined, not fully and broadly investigated in order to produce generalizations on a large scale about a broader area. Moreover, researchers haven’t discussed thoroughly the roles and values of defensive villages and fortress houses in the development of these two ethnic groups. In this article, the author focuses on assessing the values of cultural components and features of defensive villages and fortress houses of Tay and Nung people from the perspectives of cultural history, human ecology and tourism on the scale of the Vietnam nation-state in general and Lang Son province in North East border region in specific.
