The Marriage of the Black Ha Nhi People in Bat Xat District, Lao Cai Province at Present

Abstract

The writing deals with the marriage of the Black Ha Nhi people in Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province. It shows a number of conceptions and principles in marriage, the ceremonies in traditional marriage and the marriage in the special cases of the Ha Nhi people. With the economic development and process of social change, the marriage of the Ha Nhi people has had certain changes (marriage age has increased, criteria of selection of partner have expanded more than those in the past, buying and selling in marriage have reduced remarkably and so on). Yet, through the marriage and its ceremonies, the Ha Nhi people still have maintained, preserved many values of ethnic traditional culture (the basic principles of traditional ceremonies, characters of education and community cohesion, etc).
