Some Issues of Trans-border Ethnic Relationship in Vietnam’s Northwest Region

Abstract

The writing presents some main issues of current trans-border ethnic relationship in Vietnam Northwest region with its focus on some key aspects including               socio-cultural, economic and religious ones. Its aim is to show that in practice, the issues of current trans-border ethnic relationship are the synthetical consequence of three elements. The first is the special natural, cultural and ethnic conditions of Northwest region as a geocultural and political space. The second is the movement of ethnic process in Northwest region in historic secular, including both trans-border ethnic relationships which bear natural character and those generated by the nation-state policies and relationship between ethnicities in region with the Vietnamese and Chinese nation-states. The third is the changes in the background of region and zone in globalization period. The combination of three above elements has created a lively picture but no less complicated of trans-border ethnic relationship in Northwest region at present.
