The writing presents the main changes of marriage of the Giay people in the contemporary economic, cultural, political, and social background in two villages of Ban Ngan (Kim Linh commune) and Lang Lau (Phu Linh commune) belonging to Vi Xuyen district, Ha Giang province. The traditional marriage of the Giay people has undergone many changes under the impact of changes of cultural, economic, social and political system of the community. For the marriage of Giay people, its core elements are needed to bring into play and preserve so as to keep the heritage of spiritual culture and traditional value of the Giay people. The core elements are the form of traditional singings in wedding, traditional wedding costume, the ritual for selection of wedding day and the special role of matchmaker and shaman in marriage.
