Abstract

Based on a case study in Lung Pung and Co Tau villages of Duong Thuong commune, Yen Minh district, Ha Giang province, the writing aims to introduce a number of features of the eating and drinking habits of the Hmong people. After migrating to Ha Giang territory, the Hmong have adapted very soon to the living condition of high stone mountainous terrain with water shortage, harsh climate so as to produce and seek for foods. Due to the difficulty of their economic condition, the Hmong daily meal is simple, the dishes as well as the way in which they process dishes are plain. Yet, in their conception of life, the Hmong people have not considered material as so important. This is expressed in their explanation of dishes, especially the ways in which they use dishes for daily life, fair and ancestral worship, etc. This also shows that in the Hmong society, the community consciousness rules over the life of Hmong people profoundly.
