For the Tay people in Po Cai village, farming and livestock raising are always two main economic activities. Beside the farming, the livestock raising has provided the Tay people in this village with food source and cash income. Especially, the water buffalo raising also secures in part the drawing force for their agricultural cultivation. But under the impact of industrialization, modernization and integration, the role and form of livestock raising of the Tay people in Po Cai have changed. Notably, for a number of people who have taken part in non-agricultural activities (such as doing hired works, small businesses and other services), the role of livestock raising has decreased. At present, among Tay people in Po Cai village, a number of traditional types of livestock raising have been reduced or completely disappeared while the other ones still have been maintained but with the new breeds of livestock.
