Abstract

This article focuses on an introduction of some basic theories of ethnic relations and issues of ethnic policies in selected areas and regions in the world such as the Balkans, Southeast Asia, and China. The literature review shows that it is thought that in today's modern society, all conflicts, including ethnic conflict, can be controlled and addressed better by the power of the state and international communities, and the strengthening of political and social institutions. However, the fact is that ethnic issues and ethnic relations are always sensitive, complicated, and unpredictable. The lesson learnt for Vietnam is to convert latent ethnic conflicts in a creative way based on the principle of ensuring the harmony of interests between the State and ethnic groups, and between peoples living across this country.
