Local Knowledge in Use and Management of Forest Resource of the Red Yao People (A Case Study in Tang Village, Phuc Son Commune, Chiem Hoa District, Tuyen Quang Province)
Abstract
While the forest resources in many localities has being reduced seriously, by conserving and bringing into play their knowledge in use and management of natural resources, the Red Yao people in Tang village, Phuc Son commune, Chiem Hoa district, Tuyen Quang province have maintained the primary forests. This article introduces the Red Yao knowledge in use of wood, non-timber forest products, forest land for swidden cultivation and in hunting accompanied with the common regulations and conventions of the forest resource protection. The practice shows that activities for subsistence of this ethnic group have been inseparated from relation with the forest. At present, for protection of the forest resources, apart from the role of relative state laws, the local knowledge of the Red Yao in place still has been brought into play its values.
