Ethnic Studies in the University of Da Lat (1980 - 2012): Initial Achievements

Abstract

This article points out the achievements and limitations of ethnic studies at the University of Da Lat. The ethnic studies at the University of Da Lat are mainly      issue-focused. Meanwhile, the region-based study is mainly linked to the Central Highlands, where the University is located, and associated with the University's goal to provide qualified human resources for this region. Ethnic studies are increasingly interesting, but still relatively poor. The published research results, in general, are still very modest and many of them cannot be seen as the product of high quality science; there are still many gaps to be filled, particularly regarding more in-depth research. The main reason for the inadequate conditions mentioned above is that there are no good teachers truly devoted to the study of indigenous peoples in the Central Highlands; or if there are any, they are not fulfilling their potential.
