The Vietnamese are the majority people in the ethnic communities of the country and play a key role in Vietnam's history. They had an enormous impact on socio-economic and cultural aspects in South Vietnam during reclamation. This article presents a number of economic activities and cultural characteristics of the Vietnamese, as well as their role and contribution in the process of reclaiming the Southern region during the 17th - 18th century. By reclaiming land up until the end of the eighteenth century, the Vietnamese created vast acreage, which set the basis for the rich agricultural development in the region. The Viet’s behaviors to the new environment have had many changes in the way of life, practice, physical and mental activities. That has contributed to the formation of new cultural elements, besides keeping traditional Vietnamese culture, and created a lifestyle typical of the Viet people in the South region.
