  • Vương Ngọc Thi, Nguyễn Quý Thanh

Tóm tắt

This article summarizes the social capital of ethnic minorities in Vietnam by examining its elements, including the social network, norms, values, expectations and confidence. The authors also study some transformations of the social capital and analyze differences in social capital among ethnic minorities. This study shows that the networks of social relations amongst ethnic minorities in Vietnam is quite wide and diverse, not confined within a family, clan or village community, but also extends across ethnic groups, villages, and even international borders. The elements and levels of social capital of ethnic minorities in Vietnam are constantly changing, especially the expansive network of increasingly flexible, social relations, norms, values and faith, while customary laws are gradually replaced by state law. The differences in social capital can also result from differences between the different types of capital such as human capital, cultural capital, and economic capital.
