The mountainous region of Thanh Hoa is one of the largest provinces and there are many ethnic groups living in this area, including the Thai, Muong, Dao, Hmong, Tho, Kho-mu and Kinh people. Among them, the Thai and the Muong make up the largest and oldest populations there. The Thai people play an important role in the socio-economic development and defense of the mother country. Many aspects of the Thai culture, such as housing, clothes, eating and drinking, folklore, traditional religious beliefs, have been influenced by the Muong ethnic group. This cultural interaction between the Thai and the Muong influence both the culture of the Thai and the Muong ethnic group in Thanh Hoa province creating a unique cultural phenomenon to the region.
