The Islamic Cham subgroup in Tay Ninh town is guided by religious tenents over many aspects of their life, including over their eating and drinking habits. According to the Islamic rules, Cham do not eat pork; do not eat any animals that are choked to death or that die from abnormal causes. Cham commonly eat the buffaloes, cows, chickens, and ducks. But, before animals are killed, a prayer is said to sanction the kill. In addition, Islam influences the types of restaurants that are acceptable because of their strict dietary regimen.
