Buidling up Criteria of Ethnic Cultural Sustainable Development in Viet Nam

Abstract

Studying the roles of culture in sustainable development is a topic of many interests, but examinizing the sustainable development of the culture itself has been rarely carried out, especially in Viet Nam. To study the cultural sustainable development, it is important to examine the culture itself in relation to the changes. In addition, it is crucial to build up criteria of the cultural sustainable development. Based on the reality of Viet Nam, the author builds up the five following criteria of the cultural sustainable development at   the village level: 1) Acceptance of cultural diversity; 2) Maintenance of ethnic languages;   3) Preservation of ethnic culture in itself; 4) Awareness of self-ethnic identity; and  5) Cultural contribution to socio-economic development. The above-mentioned criteria were applied in the project on the cultural sustainable development of ethnic groups in Northeast Viet Nam.
