Using the data set collected from students of the 6th, 7th, 8th grades of Yen Vien Lower Secondary School, this study applies the theory of homophily and the theory of the stages of group development to explain the formation and process of peer-groups developing in lower secondary school. The author briefly describes some characteristics of lower secondary school peer-groups and assesses the importance of peer-groups to lower secondary school students. The author’s results show that there are the similarities in the students’ motives to set up peer-groups. The results also point out that lower-secondary-school peer-groups are mostly formed in the period from the beginning of the 6th grade to the first semester of the 8th grade.
