The article focuses on different aspects relating to the development, use, and protection of water among the Thai people. The author finds water to be an indispensable natural resource for cultivation and livelihoods among the local people. There are numerous practices associated with water and its protection among the locals. With this in mind, the author emphasizes the study of folk knowledge among ethnic minorities, including the Thai, with the aim of effectively protecting, developing, and utilizing water resources. This study has practical significance in terms of water's contribution to sustainable development in mountainous areas, and among the ethnic minority populations who live there, particularly because the water supply in these regions is gradually diminishing.
