The Wedding Ceremony of the Dan Lai

Abstract

This article refers to the marital process and ceremonies of the Dan Lai people, a sub-ethnic group of the Tho in Con Cuong district, Nghe An province. According to the author, the Dan Lai people still maintain distinct customs regarding marriage such as simple wedding proceedings without the presence of the bridesmaid and groomsman and sexual intercourse before marriage. In addition, the wedding ceremonies of the Dan Lai people are gradually being influenced by the culture of the Thai ethnic group. The author suggests that it is necessary to study wedding ceremony culture of the Dan Lai to maintain and reinforce cultural life in the community.
