Tóm tắt
This article discusses important coping mechanisms and risks associated with poverty in Lang Son province (Vietnam). Hanh and Lan point out that there are two different levels of risks: large-scale at the community level and small-scale at the household level. Risks associated with poverty have increased recently between those below the poverty line and those just above the poverty line. There is a fine line between the very poor and the poor. In order to overcome shocks and misfortunes, communities and households have to mobilize all their resources. In the future these collaborative efforts may require more aid to be successful in overcoming the struggles of the past. The authors provide some recommendations and suggestions to reduce vulnerability from risks and shocks to the community and household level.
